Such majestic views to die for (selfies also worth dying for)! Standing at 3,726 metres, Mount Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia on the island of Lombok. The best time to climb the mountain is during the April to November dry season, but don't try during the rainy season as trekking trails will be closed. The summit promises the best views (only if you make it there) for the most important photo! That classic summit photo that everyone takes as proof that they made it. Big smiles to hide all the pain you’ve gained. Make sure you upload your photos to all social media platforms to tell all your friends that you're not a vapid millennial whose only hobbies are watching K-dramas and TV series. Now, take up the challenge and show your friends how adventurous you are!

Seriously tho,
The Internet and social media has been used to promote adventure tourism more than ever, leading to the over-commercialization of mountain trekking. It has enticed many people to trek despite not having proper training, which is actually very dangerous.
Did you know that the lack of preparation for a strenuous climb poses increased risk to yourself and others? It increases your chances of injuries, altitude sickness and poses an additional burden to others (for example, your friends who have to wait for you or porters who have to carry injured people down to mountain). Believe it or not, we ever saw a lady climbing up the mountain with a handbag and with her guide holding her and carrying her bags?!
Have you ever been on a hiking trip without preparing sufficiently for it? How did you feel during the climb? On hindsight, do you think it was responsible to yourself and others?
